What was once a small white village of fishermen is now one of the most cosmopolitan places on the Costa del Sol, with one of the most famous sports ports of the Mediterranean, Puerto Banús, where some of the most famous yachts have anchored.
This residential and holiday jet-set centre, with its millionaires and celebrities, makes for a clean, secure and well maintained Marbella. Its boulevards, tropical parks and gardens add to the splendour. The historical old quarter with its Andalucían/Moorish mix can still be found, with its flower-filled balconies and narrow streets. Pungent fragrances intoxicate you on every corner.
Marbella is perfectly placed in the heart of the Costa del Sol. Its origins date back to 1600 BC. Its Roman roots gave it the name "Salduba" and it was situated on the "Vía Augusta". In the year 711, the Moors conquered part of the Iberian Peninsula. Under the reign of the Moors, Marbella became a prosperous town and was given the name "Marbi-la".
The architecture of the town has a mixture of Moorish-Mediterranean style. In 1485 the Catholic kings entered the town to make their mark and give it a Castilian style. This is where the name Marbella derives from. Through history Marbella has been converted into the magnificent town it is today, offering its visitors a taste of Andalusia with its narrow streets and rustic houses, pretty squares and tropical flowers, all this and the cool blue Mediterranean.
Marbella's main activity is to welcome the thousands of visitors that keep coming. The beaches, golf courses, fabulous marinas, water sports, luxury hotels and restaurants, some of the finest shops in the world, a thriving night life and the clean air of a natural environment couldn't be better. All this makes Marbella the place to enrich the body and mind, where life has another meaning.
With its privileged climate, luxury accommodation, fabulous sports facilities and the natural warmth of the town, Marbella is ideal for holidays, conferences, or both. There are many large cities nearby with lots of cultural spots to visit: Málaga, Granada, and Sevilla, and you're also facing the coast of Africa with frequent short trips leaving from Algeciras. Marbella is very accessible, with two airports to choose from (Gibraltar & Málaga), excellent roads, and its luxury ports.
Due to the geographic situation of Marbella, backed by mountains on the Mediterranean coast, we can enjoy a special climate, with warm temperatures all year round and no cold winters. The average temperature is 19°C, with sunshine 320 days of the year and less than 50 days of rain, which we need to maintain the fabulous tropical vegetation in the area.
