The Caminito del Rey runs for more than seven kilometres along the walls of the Gaitanes Gorge, between the Málaga towns of Ardales and Álora. Along the way it crosses suspended bridges, narrow walkways fixed to the rock and stretches with a glass floor, leading to a viewpoint 105 metres above the Guadalhorce river. Originally built to serve the reservoirs in the area and inaugurated by Alfonso XIII, it is today one of the most spectacular routes in all of Andalucía.

Before entering the gorge, the excursion usually stops in Ardales, an inland village set in the Sierra de las Nieves and known for its hermitage carved into the rock and its Mozarabic remains, with free time for breakfast or some shopping.
